Kickstarter and You

In today's gaming world, it takes a LOT of money to make a video game. Sometimes it takes millions of dollars for a high end game to be made and put on the market. Now it seems that Gaming Companies are reaching out to the gamers out there for money in the form of the Kickstarter site. Basically what this means is they show they are looking for donations towards their game, once it reaches a set amount it'll get started. The biggest one that I heard of is the Wasteland 2 Kickstarter, however is this really a good thing? To have the fans put their money into a game before it even comes out? Now the safe thing about the Kickstarters is that if for whatever reason the project doesn't reach its goals, then the money goes back to you. My issue is, while it may SOUND like a good idea, what if the game YOU put your money towards ends up being crap and you paid, not only for the game to be made, but bought the game as well. Does this mean you get to tell the Gaming Company to change it or are you just up a river without a paddle? I honestly don't think it is a good idea, its a major risk to put money into a game you don't even know it'll end up being good, however, its your money, do with it as you wish.
